Big Box, Little Box

Players practice dribbling through boxes practicing Attacking moves.

    • One small, square grid of cones

    • One large, square grid of cones surrounding the small grid

    • Each player starts with a ball on the outside of the large grid

    • Balls

    • Disc cones

  • Players dribble through the center grid and then dribble the ball to a different sideline.

    1. Players move through the small box to win a point.

    2. Coach introduces a range of foot skills to be performed on the call. Coach blows whistle and players practice:

      • Stepover Move

      • Feint Move

    • Add a coach or captain as a light defender to apply some pressure

    • Add competition- players earn a point if they dribble through the center without running into anyone/losing their ball

    • Soft touches in small box- close control of ball

    • Bigger touches in big box - run with the ball

    • Remind students to be aware of surroundings and look up as much as possible

    • Be creative with the calls you make- you can add in “act like a chicken” or “steal someone’s ball” to mix it up

Reflection: Social Awareness

1. 3 Finger Check-in

  • Put 3 fingers up if you feel like you've mastered the "Step Over" move

  • Put 2 fingers up if you feel like you are improving but still need some practice

  • Put 1 finger up if you are feeling frustrated or need some help

2. Can anyone help demonstrate that move so people can improve?
