Shooting Star

Shooting drill with a goalie.

    • In a large playing space with boundaries, create four equal zones with cones.

    • On one end of the field, put a goal on the endline of each zone.

    • Place one cone 20 feet opposite the goalie

    • Place plenty of balls on each of the sidelines of the zones that have the goals.

    • The setup should be a mirror because the activity runs simultaneously with 2 groups.

    • Disc cones

    • Balls

    • Goals

  • To score a goal against a goalie

    1. Split the group into 2 teams. Each team lines up at each cone, facing the goal. One player from each team will play goalie and one player starts at the side with the balls AKA the “feeder.”

    2. Player without the ball enters the zone and the feeder passes them the ball. The player shoots.

    3. The player who shot the ball becomes the feeder and the feeder becomes the goalie and the goalie runs to the end of their team’s line.

    • Combine with dribbling and passing: player at the cone starts with the ball, dribbles, and does a give-and-go pass (see QR code) with the feeder before shooting.

    • Make it an Aerial drill and have the feeder throw the ball in the air.

    • Competition: introduce a points system between the two sides!

    • Remind players to point their nonkicking foot in the direction they want the ball to go.

    • Encourage players to practice aiming for both corners of the goal.

Reflection: Relationship Skills

3 finger check-in

1. How supported do you feel by your teammates:

3 fingers- I feel like all my teammates want me to do well and encourage me.

2 fingers- I feel like my team supports me sometimes.

1 finger-I need more support from my team.

2. How can we be more supportive during scrimmages when we are playing each other?
