Stingers
Players try to avoid being “stung” with the ball.
-
A large open space with boundaries
Choose 2-3 players to be stingers
-
1 Ball per Stinger
Disc cones
-
Stingers to try to tag the runners by passing the ball and hitting them below the knee.
-
Each tagger has a ball, runners do not.
Stingers must be within 1 foot of the runner when trying to tag them.
When a runner is tagged, the coach gives them a ball to become a stinger.
Play several rounds and switch out the taggers.
-
Once a runner is tagged, have them squat down and be frozen and one of their teammates can leap over them like leapfrog to unfreeze them.
-
Encourage stingers to keep their head up to see who to kick towards.
Encourage stingers to work together to be more successful in the game.
Week 4, Day 2
Reflection: Social Awareness
1. This week we are talking about Social Awareness. Who can remind us what that is?
Identifying how others feel and supporting them
2. Today I'm looking for teammates that encourage others and help out if they can. Who is someone you could support today during practice?
3. How can you support them?
Week 5, Day 1
Reflection: Responsible Decision Making
Today we will be talking about how to make good decisions. This is called Responsible Decision Making.
1. What could make this game not fun? What could make it more fun?
-Encourage players to recognize possible problems or ones they saw
2. If someone gets hurt during the game what’s the best thing you can do?
*Ask the Captains to do a role-play of a good reaction to someone getting hurt and a bad reaction- have players discuss
-Stop play and ask if they are ok
-Get the coach if they need help
