Tick Tock on the Clock with Defenders
Players dribble around the clock at the coach’s calls with defenders attacking.
-
A large square playing area with 4 equal grids
Choose 4 defenders
Divide players evenly in each grid, each player has a ball
-
Balls
4 pinnies
8 Disc cones
1 different colored cone
-
Players follow coaches calls to dribble in the correct areas and direction without getting their ball stolen.
-
“Dribble”-Players begin by dribbling around in their team’s grid and try not to get their ball stolen.
If a ball is stolen the player becomes a Defender and the defender dribbles their ball.
Introduce Clockwise and Counterclockwise Calls. Have players practice.
Add Advanced Calls if players are ready.
Coach Calls:
“Dribble” and the players stay in that grid dribbling.
"Clockwise", players dribble their ball in that direction into the next grid and freeze, with their foot on top of the ball not moving.
Optional: Feel free to have students be creative and add additional “Coach Calls”
-
Challenge: Coach calls additional commands:
“Criss Cross”- players dribble to the diagonal grid
“Time to Get UP”-Have team choose a creative exercise/movement to do (jumping Jacks, Dribble like you are angry/happy/surprised)
-
Encourage players to keep their head up as they follow the commands
Make it fun- when you say “criss-cross” they all shout back “APPLESAUCE!” as they move to where they should be
Use soft touches when dribbling to shield the ball.
Reflection: Self-Management
1. What was your goal at the beginning of practice?
2. What did you do during your last two games to work towards your goal?
Example: My goal was to not stop trying even if I got upset.
-I was upset when Mario stole my ball but I kept playing
