Handball
A sport great for teamwork.
-
A rectangular playing field with one goal at each end
Have one team on each side of field to start
One team wears pinnies
-
Ball
Goals
Pinnies
Cones
-
Throw the ball into the goal.
-
Players use their hands, throwing the ball to teammates to keep possession.
Once a player receives the ball, they can take 3 steps with the ball in their hand, and then they must pass to a teammate.
When a player does not have the ball, they are allowed to run anywhere.
The opposing team may try to intercept the ball only during passes. Players cannot grab the ball out of other players’ hands.
If the team who is passing drops the ball, it is a turnover and the other team gets the ball.
Players cannot pass the half circle- only the goalie is allowed in that space.
Each team scores by throwing the ball into the opponents goal.
*Recommend starting without a goalie at first, Handball courts generally have a bigger goal than pugg goals so you can also use cones to make it larger.
-
Have multiple fields at once, depending on numbers and space
Create endzones instead of goals to make it easier to score
-
Remind players to not cross the half circle where the goalie is
Communication is key!
Reflection: Self-Management & Social Awareness
1. How did you decide who to pass the ball to?
2. What strategies did you use to be successful in this game?
3. Who on your team can you shout out?
