Self-Awareness & Dribbling

Objectives:

  • SEL:  Players will be able to describe a range of emotions and the situations that cause them to identify emotions in the moment.

  • SOCCER: Players will be able to understand how to dribble and run with the ball at different speeds, directions, and parts of the foot.

Day 1:

Agenda

10 min- Informal Time: Attendance, Warm Welcome

15 min- Warm Up: Mountains & Valleys

5 min- Soccer Focus Intro: Dribbling Skill: Sweet Spot Taps

15 min- Dribbling- Unopposed: 4 Corners

15 min- Dribbling- Opposed: 4 Corners with Defenders

25 min- Scrimmage

  • Soccer Skill Question:

    1. What is the definition of dribbling in your own words? What parts of your feet do you use?

    -moving with the ball using all different parts of our feet: inside, outside & laces.

    SEL Question:

    1. Today we worked on Self-Awareness or taking a selfie of our inside feelings. What are some feelings you felt today?

    2. Do you feel different after practice than you did before? Why is learning our feelings important?

Day 2:

5 min- Soccer Focus Intro: Dribbling Skill: Dancing on the Ball

15 min- Dribbling- Unopposed: Red Light, Green Light

15 min- Dribbling- Opposed: Crazy Crab Soccer

25 min- Scrimmage

  • Soccer Skill Question:

    1. Ask players to define dribbling in their own words & name or point to parts of feet used to dribble

    -moving with the ball using all different parts of our feet: inside, outside & laces

    2. How do practicing Soft Touches and Dancing on the Ball help us improve in dribbling?

    -learn how to do soft touches

    -help us keep the ball without a defender stealing it

    SEL Question:

    1. This week we are working on Self-Awareness.

    -Put 3 fingers up if you feel like you can always name your emotions when you are feeling them

    -put 2 fingers up if you feel like you can sometimes name your emotions when you are feeling them

    -put 1 finger up if you can only name your emotions after you are feeling them

    2. Did anyone ever get frustrated when practicing today? What did you do to make sure you kept a positive attitude?

  • This week we were working on Self-Awareness.

    1. What is Self-Awareness? -being aware of your feelings, taking a selfie of your inside

    2. Our goal was to be able to recognize our feelings in different situations. I want you to think about our scrimmage today and what feelings you felt during the scrimmage.

    -Turn to someone next to you and share your feelings- Remember they are just feelings, they aren't good or bad.

    -Now I want you to think about why you might have felt those feelings.

    -Would anyone like to share?
