Responsible Decision Making & Defending

Objectives:

  • SEL:  Players will be able to make reasonable choices based on their observations. They will be able to identify solutions for individual and team problems/obstacles.

  • SOCCER: Players will be able to understand and demonstrate the basic principles of defending in a 1v1 situation.

Day 1:

Agenda

10 min- Informal Time: Attendance, Warm Welcome

15 min- Warm Up: Stingers

5 min- Soccer Focus Intro: Defending Skill: Split, Step, Stop

15 min- Dribbling- Unopposed: Rainbow Gates

15 min- Dribbling- Opposed: Defending Principles

25 min- Scrimmage

  • Soccer Skill Question:

    How do you do a Split, Step, Stop Move?

    -Split: have your legs in a wide stance, shoulder length apart

    -Step: step to one side of the person you want to steal the ball from

    -Stop: hold that position and follow the person with the ball until you can steal it or they dribble out of bounds

    SEL Question:

    1. Today we are talking about Responsible decision making. What are some good decisions you made today in Soccer Practice?

    2. How is Responsible Decision making make you safer?

    3. Who is someone you can shout out for being a great team member today?

Day 2:

5 min- Soccer Focus Intro: Defending Skill: Poke

15 min- Dribbling- Unopposed: Follow the Leader

15 min- Dribbling- Opposed: Knock Out

25 min- Scrimmage

  • Soccer Skill Question:

    1. What is a poke?

    -Stealing the ball from an attacker

    2. How do you steal the ball?

    -Hold your stance, bend your knees, force to one side, deny space

    SEL Question:

    1. This week we are talking about Responsible Decision Making, who can tell us what that means?

    -making decisions that are safe and supportive of the team and me

    2. What was one responsible decision you made today? (turn and talk)

    3. What was one decision you want to make better next time? (turn and talk)

    4. Who would like to share or shout out their partner for their honesty or focus on growth?
